‘Came for the Babies – Stayed for the Feminism’

Can Mumsnet be described as a feminist site? And, if so, what sort of feminist voices can be found there? Whilst some in the media dismiss the site as a ‘smug Mumsnet mafia’ (Janet Street-Porter, Daily Mail, 15 February 2010), there is a growing appreciation that such female-dominated Internet sites offer women a space to articulate concerns and formulate their response to societal and political issues, many of which impact on their lives and those of their children. And that some at least of this discussion is framed in feminist terms.
